FAQs

In-Branch: To open an account at a Dollar Bank office, you’ll need to provide your name, address, date of birth, Social Security number or taxpayer identification number, and a valid non-expired government-issued ID. You’ll also need an opening deposit using either cash or a check.

Online: If you open online, you’ll also need to provide your name, address, date of birth, Social Security number or taxpayer identification number, and a valid non-expired government-issued ID. You’ll fund the account during the application process, which you can do by using a debit card, the routing and account number from another bank account, or by securely transferring funds via ACH using your online banking login information from another financial institution.

To open a minor account, the parent or guardian must be a joint owner of the account and have a valid, non-expired government ID. If the minor does not have a valid non-expired government ID they must provide one of the following: learner’s permit, school ID, Social Security card or birth certificate. Documents must be original, valid, and non-expired; copies or screenshots cannot be accepted.

Start by opening your new Dollar Bank account, then move your direct deposit, automatic payments and recurring transfers. ClickSWITCH can help make this easier by helping you automatically move your direct deposit. You’ll want to keep your old account open until you confirm that deposits and payments are successfully moving through the new account.

Allpoint

Because Allpoint is a worldwide network, you’ll find Allpoint ATMs near your workplace and at your favorite vacation spots too. No sign up is required. Simply use your current Dollar Bank Mastercard® Debit Card or ATM Card to get cash at any Allpoint ATM.

Just look for the Allpoint logo on the ATM machine or visit our locations page for a list of convenient Allpoint ATMs.

FREEDOM

The best way to avoid overdraft fees is to keep track of your account balance and upcoming payments, set up account alerts and make sure you have enough available funds before using your debit card, writing checks or scheduling payments.

We also offer Overdraft Defense which is our commitment to helping personal checking customers avoid overdraft fees and includes:

  • No NSF Fees: An NSF fee is a penalty some banks charge when they decline a transaction because there aren’t enough funds in your account to cover it. If we don’t pay an item on your behalf, no fee is charged.
  • No overdraft fees on items under $5.
  • Free Overdraft Protection: Money from your savings can be automatically transferred to your checking to cover transactions that would otherwise overdraft your checking account. Keep in mind that some savings accounts have limitations on the number of free withdrawals, payments and/or transfers that can be completed each month. See the Account Information Schedule for your savings account for more details.

If you're looking for an account that comes with no overdraft fees, period, our No Overdraft Checking Account could be a good match for you. This Bank On certified account won't let transactions bring your funds below your available balance, so you'll never be charged an overdraft fee. (Please note: Certain transactions are not subject to decline. If any such transaction causes a negative balance, no overdraft fee will apply.)

Yes, opening a savings account along with your checking account can be a smart way to separate everyday spending from money you want to set aside. A savings account can also help your money grow by earning interest over time. You’ll want to link your savings account to your checking account for added convenience and overdraft protection.

We are here to help. Please visit our contact page for information on how to best contact us depending on your account question.

Learn About the 4 Basic Types of Bank Accounts

The four basic types of bank accounts—checking, savings, certificates of deposit (CDs) and money market accounts—each serve different financial needs, from everyday spending to earning interest and long-term saving. Learn about key features, benefits and considerations of each account type.

Debit Cards vs. Credit Cards: Key Differences and Benefits

Many consumers feel that having both a debit and credit card can be a wise money management strategy and that the key is knowing when to use each.

Checking vs. Savings Accounts: Key Differences and Benefits

Checking and savings accounts serve different purposes: checking accounts provide easy access to money for everyday spending, bill payments and direct deposits, while savings accounts are designed to help set aside money for future short- and long-term goals and earn interest over time. Both accounts should be used together as part of a solid money-management strategy.
