The free educational programs detailed below are available to our community partners.

Free Educational Programs for Individuals

Home Ownership Basics

This seminar provides an introduction to our programs for home ownership. Learn about the benefits and responsibilities of home ownership and the importance of good credit. Participants will receive a simplified credit report and learn how to read and interpret the information it contains. This session is held in a community setting for groups of 20 or more.

Home Ownership Program

The Home Ownership Program at Dollar Bank was developed to assist low and moderate income individuals and families who would like to become first-time homebuyers and cannot qualify for a mortgage because of inadequate income, excessive debt and/or credit. Today, Dollar Bank is the only financial institution in western Pennsylvania and northeast Ohio to provide in-house credit counseling and restoration services. Additionally, Dollar Bank supports a bilingual Home Ownership Program in Cleveland, Ohio.

Home Ownership Training

This five-week session prepares low and moderate income residents for home ownership. Classes include an in-depth discussion of topics such as credit, mortgage eligibility requirements, mortgage products, foreclosure prevention and home maintenance. Attendees will also learn how to shop for a home, work with a real estate agent, and how to apply for and close on a mortgage. Dollar Bank’s Home Ownership Training classes have an average attendance of 20 people per session.

Post Purchase Seminars

This seminar series was first presented in 2006 to assist low and moderate income first-time homeowners with the potential challenges they may face after purchasing their home. Designed to help individuals preserve the investment in their home and their community, the seminars are held approximately five times a year. Topics include budgeting, money management, homeowners insurance, predatory financing, contractor scams and managing credit.

Predatory Financing Education

Held throughout the year and complementing our Post Purchase Seminars, this session educates residents on the long-term effects of using predatory financing. This includes accessing payday lenders and instant tax refund services as a solution to short-term money management issues.

Community Development and Small Business Lending

Community Development Lending requires innovative thinking and often times the use of diverse partners to manage multiple layers of risk. From pre-development loans to bridge loans to the use of low-income housing tax credits, Dollar Bank’s corporate and commercial real estate lenders work with non-profit organizations, government entities and private borrowers to complete community development projects that spur job growth, enhance the tax base and strengthen the community’s economic viability.

Working with federal, state and local governments, the Bank’s lenders have found creative ways to help reclaim abandoned “brown field” industrial sites, save and retool older buildings and restore vibrancy to the inner cities of both Cleveland and Pittsburgh.

The Small Business Administration has also designated Dollar Bank a Certified SBA Lender in order to help small entrepreneurs obtain the finances they need when they need them.

The longevity and success of Dollar Bank is rooted in an intense effort to provide the products and services that reflect the needs of its customers and in turn, the needs of its communities.
